A close friend of my family passed away suddenly last Sunday evening. I've been away dealing with that. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up with some new models and reschedule our tentative plans. I have yet to shoot the same model twice but that's not intentional, time to brainstorm new ideas for models I've worked with. Until then, I took plenty of pictures from the airplane ride back from Long Island. Enjoy!

Spent the past week in Long Island visiting my fiance's family. This is his nephew Andrew and his girlfriend Gabi. I took a ton of pics there and had a set from a night shoot I did a few days before we left. I got everything edited and started playing around in a beginners photo editor for some change. I usually use photoshop and am not so heavy-handed but its fun to be corny sometimes ;)

I went to an amusement park yesterday with my sis and two of her friends. My god I'm tired.

I have two shoots scheduled for next week for the same theme but the models are completely different so I think I'm going to have a nice variety. Not to mention, I still have to break Anatomy apart lol.

I am a hoarder. In my defense, I don't hoard garbage or cats or porcelin figures of Jesus... I hoard things that make me feel creative. My "sewing room" is full of fabric, findings, old clothing, stripwear I've yet to sell, notebooks, magazines, books on a variety of subjects, different papers, my cameras, a couple rolls of wallpaper, and a few boxes with totally random things like mini playing cards and lanyards. If I find something intriguing at a thrift store or garage sale, I will get it and put it in my "model closet" for possible future use (bottom two dresses). I will also get high and make other intriguing pieces of clothing (top two dresses). I'd rather use something totally off the wall for a photo shoot than something everyone has or can identify where it was bought.

My central air stopped working some time yesterday. The fact that I pay extra rent for the pleasure of having it pissed me off. So I spent last night not sleeping but fuming, fiddling with the thermostat, and moving the fan around trying to get it to blow more than the hot breath that filled my bedroom. I'm sitting in the same hot breath waiting for the repair guy to come fix it. I'm not expecting much from him... I might sleep in the basement tonight where at least the air is cool and stagnant.

So I've actually been semi-productive today... load of dishes in dishwasher, swept kitchen, rounded up 6 piles of loose change from around the house and put into the loose change bucket, ironed 4 of jon's shirts, covered the grill and tried to secure the chairs so we still have them tomorrow, and brought some of the dishes jon hoards at his desk down to the kitchen. I've only been up for 2 hours.

The wind is horrendous today, it's rainy and crappy and everything is blowing away.

Brittany is my sister's friend from college and she wants to do another shoot of her and a couple more of her friends... which would be nice since models suck.

Allana and I wandered around the nature trails on Saturday. Then we grabbed lunch and went to the locks. I have a lot of pics to edit! It was so good to see her, it's been too long.

Went to see Bill Maher at UB on Saturday night, show was pretty good.

Worked yesterday, busy as hell until 2pm then dead. Our last clients of the day, though, had lice. And I don't mean just eggs. There were dozens of adult bugs. Lice in a salon means get the hell out, we have to clean, with many times where we stopped to shake off the imaginary creepy crawlies on ourselves.

Successfully wasted the day away yesterday, trying to get some chill time in before work today. We've been so dead lately, which sucks. But at the same time, I'm lazy so it's kind of nice. I'm the first to admit that I'm lazy and a procrastinator... I've been meaning to clean out my car for two years now. There will always be a tomorrow, whether or not I'm in it is another question. So I was arrested yesterday, along with my model Amy and her sister... all in the pursuit of art. We were shooting at an old, condemned mill in town and apparently we overstayed our welcome. A train went by, saw us, and called the cops and the owner of the building. There were at least 4 squad cars, 8 cops and a K9 unit. We walked out of the building to the sight of two officers... then the rest started running out from all corners of the property. We hadn't heard any of them! The three of us were cuffed, put in separate cars and brought to jail where we were fingerprinted, asked a million questions, had mug shots taken (without the little sign which actually would have been funny), and then we got to sit in jail. Luckily my fiance bailed us out but we all have court Monday. Now, in typical trespassing cases, they give you a warning, especially if all of you are upstanding citizens (the worst we had were traffic tickets)... but the owner of this particular building insisted we were charged with criminal trespassing which got us the free ride 2 blocks over. I have to say, the other two took it much better than I did. They did let me keep the pictures, thank god. I had 350 or so taken. Fortunately, the cops never mirandized any of us when we were cuffed so we may have a fighting chance.

Note to self: contact the city and find out what land is public and what is private so I have no more fiascos with the Lockport police... or just go somewhere the cops don't care.

Got a lot of sewing done yesterday. Making/altering costumey things for shoots. I am a one-stop shop when it comes to photo shoots... I photograph of course, but I'm also a hair stylist, know my way around makeup, have quite a wardrobe started, and will model in a pinch.

My sister has agreed to come out and play dress up with me so we may get some good pics but I'm just gonna have fun. We have pics from when we were like 7-9 doing a photo shoot in our bedroom (think bunkbeds, blankets, closet packed with crap). I need to dig them up and scan them.

But for today, work and comforting Sam, as he is afraid of thunder.

I went exploring yesterday. We have locks (hence, "Lockport") so I went there and took some pictures. There weren't railings galore and such to keep people out which surprised me. I could literally climb to the floor of the canal if I wanted. I had my dog with me and he doesn't do much climbing so we stayed to the walkways. Then I went to this really rundown building I found a while back. Come to find out, it was some sort of motorcycle factory and is now condemned which makes it a perfect hangout for local kids. This railway is right next to the building and if one so chose to, one could climb/fall all the way down to the running part of the canal. I'm used to dangerous things being highly restricted so finding two places to bring models in one day was awesome. I didn't make it in the building because of my dog but there were many easy ways to do so. Then again, I didn't try them... but they looked easy enough.

Monday Night Figure Drawing

Just got back from the figure drawing thing I model for... only two artists tonight so we half-assed it. We talked about the relationship between mental illness and art. I fully believe every good artist has some degree of mental defect. It enables us to see the world differently than the masses. We see beauty in ugliness, character in mundanity, and evoke emotion with everyday things. Now I'm definately not saying we're all psychotic or anything but we are a little off.

I'm not modelling for the class for a few weeks but the organizer offerred to let me come to draw without paying the fee. I think I'm going to take her up on that offer, I like it there. I haven't done much (if anything) since I've been out of school either.

So I modeled for a figure drawing seminar last night; it was really fun to be around art people again. It was a small group but all 4 of them were cool; each had a different skill level. These are from one of the guys... he's really gestural and expressive which I love. I brought my dog and he posed with me a few times too. I get to go again next Monday!

I wish I could remember the name of the artist who inspired this series...

I've rediscovered my love of 90s country music (think diamond rio, garth brooks, toby keith before the patriotism, george strait, collin raye, brooks & dunn, etc) and its nice. I feel homey and happy(ish). It makes me forget the envy I have for those who can drop life and go cavorting over the land, at least for a moment. I feel as if all I've done since high school is drift along and not really have a say in my life. I went to a college I hated; lost friends every year; moved and moved and moved but not where I wanted to really be; took jobs to pay the bills but not as a step towards something. It might help if I knew what that something is. I've been living one day at a time without the living part.; letting life wash over me and not swimming in it. I need to work on that.
